Jack Stand Placement: A Five-Point Checklist
The five checks we run every time a car goes on stands in our own test bay.

1. Rated for the load
Confirm the stand pair capacity exceeds the weight of the end you are supporting. Capacity is marked on the stand.
2. Correct support point
Stands go on frame rails, subframe mounts, axle tubes or reinforced pinch welds shown in the manual. Never on floor pans, suspension arms that can move, or the oil pan.
3. Level and matched
Both stands at the same notch, both legs fully on concrete, and the saddle fully seated on the support point.
4. Pin in
The secondary locking pin passes fully through the column. The ratchet pawl alone is not your only lock.
5. Shake test
With the car resting on the stands and the jack lowered to just touching, push firmly on the body. Nothing should move. If it does, reset.
